Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], October 23:<\/strong> <\/span>In a historic stride for student-led space innovation and technology demonstration,\u00a0KL Deemed to be University (KLEF)<\/strong>\u00a0successfully launched its three student-built satellites \u2014\u00a0KLSAT-2 (2U CubeSat)<\/strong>,\u00a0KLJAC (Lightweight Pico Balloon Satellite)<\/strong>, and\u00a0CanSat (4U Module)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 from its Vaddeswaram Campus, marking a defining moment in the institution\u2019s pursuit of indigenous space technology and research excellence.<\/p>\n

Designed under the student satellite project, the initiative was led by the\u00a0KLSAT Team from the RF & Microwave Centre of Excellence<\/strong>, in collaboration with\u00a0Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science & Technology (APCOST)<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0REDWING<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event was graced by Shri Kanumuru Raghu Rama Krishna Raju Garu, Deputy Speaker, Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Shri Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma Garu, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Steel, Ms. Koneru Nikhila Karthikeyan, Dr. G P Saradhi Varma, Vice Chancellor, and Shri Koneru Satyanarayana Garu,\u00a0Chancellor, KLEF. Distinguished dignitaries from industry, ASI, and academia, along with researchers, experts, faculty members, and students, also witnessed the event.<\/p>\n

Shri Kanumuru Raghu Rama Krishna Raju Garu praised the students\u2019 dedication and creativity, while Shri Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma Garu lauded the university\u2019s initiatives in advancing indigenous technology and nurturing future-ready talent.<\/p>\n

Each of the three missions carried distinct objectives and outcomes.\u00a0KLSAT-2 (2U CubeSat)<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0Hybrid Aeroswift VTOL Flight-Cum-Flight Module<\/strong>, an upgraded version of the earlier\u00a0KLSAT-1 (launched in 2023)<\/strong>, evolved from a 1U to a 2U CubeSat, enhancing its capability for scientific research, environmental monitoring, spectrometer-based data collection of 18 wavelengths and real-time communication under near-space conditions. The mission, lasting 60 to 90 minutes, focused on environmental data collection and drone-assisted CubeSat deployment \u2014 marking a\u00a0first-of-its-kind experiment by students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0CanSat module<\/strong>, equipped with a\u00a0Hybrid Coaxial Tricopter<\/strong>, was the only student satellite from Andhra Pradesh shortlisted for the\u00a0National-Level CanSat Competition<\/strong>\u00a0conducted by\u00a0IN-SPACe, ISRO, and the Astronautical Society of India (ASI)<\/strong>. It operated for about 15\u201320 minutes, demonstrating innovation in CAN satellite design with Atmospheric sensors and a parachute-based recovery system with innovative deployable payload, and is now being adapted for orbital launch in\u00a02026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0KLJAC satellite<\/strong>, an ultra-light\u00a0Pico Balloon model<\/strong>\u00a0roughly the size of a credit card, which remains airborne for about few days to months has travelled 800KMs and stayed at an altitude of 14 KMs. Built entirely by students, it was designed for Tropospheric research and telemetry testing, successfully transmitting real-time atmospheric data such as temperature, pressure, and humidity in the form of a beacon further decoded by the students. It stands among the smallest functional educational satellites ever developed, showcasing KLEF\u2019s leadership in\u00a0student-driven space missions<\/strong>. A total of\u00a046 dashboard monitoring parameters<\/strong>\u00a0were developed for live mission tracking.<\/p>\n

Sarat Kumar<\/strong>,\u00a0Member Secretary, APCOST<\/strong>, worked tirelessly to make the missions a success \u2014 handling every stage from concept and design to launch and recovery.<\/p>\n
