New Delhi [India], August 13: India’s agricultural technology landscape received a fresh push as Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji unveiled the NIKA2 Kisan Medium Drone developed by AkinAnalytics. The ministerial unveiling and demonstration brought attention to the capabilities of an indigenous agricultural drone while highlighting the contribution of a MeitY-supported, women-led DeepTech startup to India’s technology-led farming ambitions. Founder and CEO Janaki Pulaparthi led the demonstration of the homegrown platform before the Union Minister.
The occasion also highlighted the growing relevance of women entrepreneurs in India’s DeepTech landscape. AkinAnalytics is led by Janaki Pulaparthi, a Computer Science Engineer and ISB alumna, whose company is developing technology at the intersection of artificial intelligence, drones and sector-specific applications. The opportunity to demonstrate NIKA2 before Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji and have the indigenous platform unveiled by him provides recognition to the role women-led technology ventures can play in creating solutions for agriculture and rural India.
Designed as a versatile agricultural platform, NIKA2 brings together spraying and spreading functions in one drone. It features a 16-litre spraying payload and 13-kg spreading payload, enabling operators to undertake multiple agricultural tasks using the same platform. The drone can cover approximately three acres in a single sortie, subject to field and operating conditions. Its terrain-following technology is intended to help maintain operational consistency over uneven and undulating terrain, expanding its utility to challenging agricultural environments.
The drone’s applications extend beyond conventional crop spraying. NIKA2 supports precision spraying across agricultural crops and can be used for seed and granule spreading. Its capabilities also extend to aquaculture, where the platform can assist with feed distribution across fish and shrimp ponds.
Night-operation capability adds another dimension to its operational flexibility, while integrated fail-safe features have been incorporated to support safer and more dependable drone operations. Together, these features reflect an approach focused on reducing manual effort while improving speed, precision and efficiency.
AkinAnalytics has been building its technology portfolio across several sectors. Its work in Andhra Pradesh includes large-scale afforestation operations using drones for aerial seed-ball dispersal across forest landscapes. The company’s drone ecosystem is also supported by a DGCA-authorised Remote Pilot Training Organisation at Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh, where drone training contributes to skill development and rural entrepreneurship.
